The Second World War 1939-1945

The Second World War, (1st of September 1939 ? 2nd of September 1945) was a truly global conflict involving most of the nations in the world divided into two powerful military alliances, the Allies and the Axis Powers.

Allies: Great Britain, France, the Free French, the Soviet Union, the United States, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, etc?

Axis Powers: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, the Italian Social Republic, Vichy France, Japan, the Kingdom of Rumania, the Kingdom of Hungary, the Kingdom of Bulgaria and Slovakia, Finland, Croatia, Serbia, etc?

The Second World War is regarded as the first modern war, both in terms of armament and battlefield tactics, with more than 100 million soldiers mobilised and a state of ?Total War? in which the opposing sides devoted all their economic, military and scientific capacity to the war effort, with no distinction between civil and military resources. The war witnessed events of huge significance, such as the Holocaust and the dropping of the atomic bomb.

The war ended in 1945 with the total defeat of the Axis forces at the hands of the Allies, radically changing worldwide international relations and social structures.
