Damascene inkstand
Piece of the month
In the month of January we present you with the Arms Industry Museum’s latest acquisition, a luxury inkstand completely decorated in damascene work and in perfectly preserved condition. It is composed of a stand, two glass inkwells and a quill, with the inscription “Fº de V.Bueno – Eibar” on the rear.
Thanks to the inscription, we can deduce that this is a piece produced at the Factory of Vicente Bueno Orbea, an engraver active between 1909 and 1913. He had his workshop in Calle Estación (today Calle Estaziño) and, in addition to making pieces to order, was also a professor of damascening. The company was, probably, the predecessor of Bueno Hermanos S.A., a scissor factor founded in Eibar in 1930.
