Cyclist. Jose Zugasti
A collection that joins art, cycling, and Eibar's industry. In 1986, the artist from Eibar Jose Zugasti made the piece CICLISTA (CYCLIST). A human metaphor for effort, it was inspired by the epic feat of cyclist Peio Ruiz Cabestany. After being the first to summit the Tourmalet, he waited and then sacrificed himself for the team, until he finally collapsed and dismounted from his bicycle, completely spent.
With this piece, made of rods, wire, metal sheet, and material recycled from a bicycle, Zugasti seeks to express the moment when effort explodes and the cyclist's feeling of instability and fragility.
The sculpture, which belongs to the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa's collection, was granted for exhibition at the Arms Industry Museum for 10 years.
At the presentation, and for 5 months, the sculpture will be accompanied by the sketch that the artist created before the sculpture, granted by the Basque Government, as well as lithographs-studies that Zugasti made and granted himself.
